In my personal experience, most artists do not think very highly of their own works. We are constantly comparing ourselves to one another and we are always so focused on becoming better than we are in the present. This can be an issue for many people. If we spend too much time focusing on what we're doing wrong, and not enough time focusing on what we're doing right, then it can seem like we're only ever doing things wrong. I hate this way of thinking that I and many other artists find ourselves stuck in, so in an attempt to break out of it I am going to share my favorite piece I have ever made. Most artists have a favorite piece of their own, and if you are reading this and you feel like you don't have a favorite piece, I hope this inspires you to reflect on your work and look for the beauty in it.
My favorite piece I have ever done is this drawing of roses I did last year. It was my senior year of high school and I was in a class focused on building an art portfolio. I have never been one of those profound artistic thinkers who creates pieces with deep, intricate meaning. I have always been the kind of artist that simply draws what I like to look at and if it has a meaning then so be it, but this rose has no meaning at all. It is just a perfectly imperfect arrangement of pencil on paper, and that is what I love about it.
